Not ready to file, missing documents, family emergencies, can't get an appointment in time at our office, etc.
You can file an extension!!! We can file one for you, for a fee. Extensions are good until Oct. 15th.
Personally, we file an extension every year and file in May. We also have many snowbirds that file extensions every year. Contrary to old wives tales extensions are not more apt to get audited.
Remember if you owe money filing an extension as this doesn't extend when the payment is due but will stop penalties for not filing on time. Penalties for not filing on time (filing extension gives you to Oct 15th and still be on time) are 5% per month for a max of 25% of what you owe. BUT with an extension penalties on what is owe is is only .05% per month plus interest.
Ask by email/ phone any questions about extensions.
